Working with sound collected or generated from urban spaces Melbourne-based Eamon Sprod/TARAB pursues what might be called an anti-naturalist field recording practice. Shaping oblique narratives and listening spaces from within the gaps to be found in the everyday. Working to include everyday spaces as participants in aural experiences, rather than simply acting as their container.
Through spatialised performance and installation, new speculative audio spaces are shaped within pre-existing physical space: compositions are shaped to be situated within the space formed through domestic listening with a pair of stereo speakers.
Sound is introduced to space through the use of simple means. Discarded household items or physical elements of rooms are transformed into unique speakers or percussive sound generators. In turn, speakers are encouraged to move beyond their role as replicators of pre-existing sounds, instead to act as sounding things in themselves.
